No seriously, this thing is outside some big church here in Memphis... it's scary. And huge.

*blink* You're kidding me.
There's actually a statue of liberty knock off with a cross instead of a sword?
This is a joke, right?
. . .
right?

It amazes me how so many people look at the separation of church and state as an attack on religion when in fact it was established to help protect it. Gotta love the South.

Obviously that particular person (or persons) would rather spend the money on some non-original piece of crap than to use the money to help someone who is in need.
Really... more dollars than sense. And very much in tune with the whole "loving, giving" thing, now isn't it?
Well, I hope

In Edmond, OK, there's a giant cross (probably 4 or 5 stories high) that is right next to the highway. The lights used on it at night are orange, providing a nice, fiery effect.
...
I only wish I was joking, too.

Memphis eh? I've never been down there, but I've heard such great things about *hurls the evil out of his stomach* Sorry about that was being possessed by something there. I've only become aware of these "post comment" buttons so I'll keep it brief. Looking forward to seeing more from Mal's wonderfully chaotic life *swoons* Ha ha, well I'll leave it at that. Have fun in Memphis!

LOL! That right there. That is why.
Hi, I'm a Christian, Baptist even, from barely south of the Mason Dixon. I still have NO IDEA why anybody would put that awful thing up. And that is why I give up.
I give up on the whole church going, bible thumping, full on Baptist thing. I'll just be quietly Christian at home and as far away from the scary Memphis Statue of Crucifixion as I can. I wonder if other Christians even remember that crucifying was pretty typical punishment for common criminals? I mean, taken out of their context, that statue is one heck of a message to send!
Send us your... oh, whoever, just send us somebody to nail up.

Not sure I get what the big deal is about this statue. It might be that I grew up in the south and went to a Baptist academy till 3rd grade....but I really don't see why it's scary.
